NID headquartered in Ahmedabad also known by National Institute of Design, UCEED conducted by Industrial Design Centre (IDC) for IIT Mumbai, NIFT by National Institute of Design are the premier design colleges in colleges in India which select its students through their respective entrance exams. When Mathematics is mandatory for engineering and Biology for medicine, students in Class 12 from any stream are eligible to apply for the entrance exams. Usually students with excellent drawing and modelling skills end up securing a good position in the entrance exam rank list. Since these entrance exams are usually held before class 12 exam, the students and parents get an idea of what the future beholds.
NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF DESIGN (NID)
NID functioning under Union Ministry of Human Resource headquartered in Paldi, Ahmedabad has a splendid history of students getting campus placements upto 75 lakh INR. NID is ranked as the number 1 design college in Asia. Apart from the main campus in Ahmedabad, there are colleges in Bhopal, Kurukshetra (Harayana), Vijayawada (Andhra Pradesh) and Jorhad ( Assam). Product design, graphic design, animation film design, ceramic design, exhibition design, film and video communication, furniture and interior design and textile design are the courses offered here. NID has a total of 305 seats. Notification regarding the entrance exams comes in the month of October.The entrance exams takes place on Sunday either in December or early January. The students are later shortlisted from the first round to the second round which is a studio test. The most talented students from the second round get admission in the college based on the marks they obtained in the studio test. The students can apply for PG and Ph.D in the same college after completing their under graduation course. The students studying in this college can even avail scholarships from the central government and several private organisations. Adidas, Philips, Vipro, Adobe, Bombay Dyeing, Godrej, Honda, Infosis, Hindustan Unilever, IBM, Nokia, Samsung, TATA, Zomato, Mahindra etc are the well known MNCs which register in the college for campus placements. The talented minds passing out from NID receives an average salary of 30lakh INR per year. When the entrance exam in other arenas consider Class 12 marks, these colleges prefer that the students only qualify the Class 12 exam. The center for the entrance exam in Kerala is Tiruvananthapuram.
