NIFT functioning under Textile Ministry headquartered in Delhi has 16 campuses throughout including one in Kannur. It is evident from the fewer number of Malayalees in the NIFT Kannur campus that the residents in Kerala not being aware of the job opportunities that this field provides. NIFT conducts their entrance exam for a total of 4296 seats. The application form for the exam comes out online in October. The students gain admission to these colleges through an entrance exam, usually conducted in January, followed by a situation test another day after which the rank list is prepared. The initial year consists of a foundation course. Fashion design, fashion communication, leather design, knitwear design, accessory design and bachelor of fashion technology are the courses available here. Apart from the campus in Parasinikadavu, Kannur there are several others in Bangalore, Gandhinagar, Hyderabad, Bhubaneshwar, Chennai, Jodhpur, Kangra, Patna, Raibereilly, Mumbai, New Delhi, Shillong and Srinagar. The selection rounds are conducted in Kannur and Kochi. The most prefered campuses of the entrance exam toppers are the ones in Delhi and Mumbai. The companies offer placement on an average of up to 20lakh INR to the students passing out from the college.
